Today's Weather Outlook........ May 8, 2014
The workweek, turning to the corner toward the weekend, will have three seasons worth of weather across the U.S. The only season that will not be present will be autumn, if that is any consolation prize.
Mid-summer weather, especially the season`s typical hot temperatures and humid air, will have air conditioners buzzing from the lower Mississippi Valley and the Deep South, all of the way to the Carolina Coast and Florida. Even the southern Mid-Atlantic, Ohio Valley, and eastern Plains will see summer-like weather.
Temperatures will reach into the upper 80s to near 90 degrees as far north as the Ohio Valley, with 90s common throughout the South, Southeast, and even across interior Florida.
Spring thunderstorms and downpours will be found throughout the central U.S. and central Mississippi Valley from deep in the Lone Star State northward into the western Great Lakes, upper Midwest, and northern Plains.
The strongest thunderstorms, found from northern Texas northward into Iowa, could produce damaging winds, large hail and an isolated tornado.
Temperatures will range from the 60s and 70s in the upper Midwest and northern Plains to the 80s and few 90s across Texas and the Southern Plains.
A few pockets of light rain and a few thunderstorms will also be found across the Northeast and northern Mid-Atlantic, with northern New England seeing a clearing sky this afternoon. High temperatures will be in the 70s, with Maine seeing 60s.
The Northern Rockies and the Black Hills of South Dakota will be where winter weather keeps on lingering.
Heavy snow will be common across these higher elevation locations; with upwards of 6 inches possible by the time the snow ends this evening.
West of the Rockies, the only trouble will be found in the Northwest. A new wave of rain flowing off the Pacific will slap Washington, Oregon, and northern California with several rounds of rain showers. High temperatures will be in the 50s and 60s as the rain and clouds keep the warm sun at bay.
The rest of California, Southwest, Great Basin, Intermountain West, and southern Rockies will bask in spring sunshine today. Highs will range from the 80s in the Southwest and southern California, to 60s in the Intermountain West and Northern Rockies. Everywhere else in between will be in the upper 60s and low 70s.
