Tuesday's Weather Outlook

Tuesday's Weather Outlook
3 PM EDT, May 12, 2014

The second day of the work week won`t bring any drying relief to the waterlogged Southern Plains and Mid-South with fresh downpours on the horizon.
More stormy skies will blossom in the Midwest and Ohio Valley while sunshine brings blazing heat to parts of the California coast.
A cold front slowly pedaling towards the East Coast will produce more torrential downpours and storms from the Texas Big Bend to the Midwest on Tuesday.
The best threat for flash flooding will be across the Mid-South where 2 to 3 inches could fall quickly from a combination of showers and storms.
Even residents in Indianapolis, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Detroit and Syracuse, N.Y., will need the umbrellas.
A strong high pressure will bring sunshine and record-smashing heat to the Central California Coast on Tuesday.
Oakland and San Francisco will top out near 90 degrees with the mercury nearing 100 degrees closer to Interstate 5.
Residents here are urged to wear light-colored, loose fitting clothing and avoid strenuous activity during the day.
Cooler air will sweep into the nation`s midsection in the wake of a cold front while summer heat and humidity will build along the East Coast.
Besides the heat pump blasting onto the Central California coast, highs will also top out in the 90s in the Southwest, Southeast and southern Mid-Atlantic Coast.
Temperatures will warm into the 80s from the Midwest to the northern Mid-Atlantic with 70s common along the Northwest Coast.
The eastern warmth won`t trickle into New England. Instead, Boston, Portland, Maine, and Hartford, Conn., will stay in the 50s to lower 60s as a Northeast wind drives in much cooler temperatures from the North Atlantic.
The Rockies will also stay unusually cooler than average with temperatures in the 30s and 40s. Meanwhile, 50s will invade the Great Basin, Plains, Upper Mississippi Valley and western Great Lakes.
